Dubai Creek - Discover the History of Dubai

April 3, 2014

After having a long stay in the Dubai Mall in the previous day, my legs were already asking for some relaxation. Therefore, I decided to enjoy a foot massage in the hotel, where we were staying. The next day, I hooked up with a plan of visiting the Dubai Creek, which is known to be one of the most visited places of Dubai.

The creek of Dubai is a salt water body that runs amidst the middle of the country segregating Deira areas of Dubai and Bur Dubai. The creek originates from the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary and ends after a distance of fourteen kilometers.

We went to see the creek of Dubai and could observe that the western and eastern parts of it were connected with the help of four bridges. Al Garhoud, Business Bay crossing bridge, Maktoum Bridge and Al Shindagha are four of the bridges that connect the Dubai Creek.

The history of the formation of the creek is also very long. The ancient sea routes between India and East African coast was established here through the Dubai Creek. Since the creek is located strategically within the center of Dubai, it was deepened more to allow the access of larger vessels and hence, more commercial communications were established with other countries.

As we went around the creek, we saw a bird sanctuary located at the inland side. The bird sanctuary is said to be a dwelling place for than 27,000 native and migratory birds. There are numbers of hotels, golf courts, yachting clubs beneath the banks of the creek, which makes it more than just a visiting place. The earlier notion of the Dubai Creek, which was just limited to be a lookout place, is now transformed to be one of the hot-spot areas of Dubai for commercial activities as well.

The old world charm is effectively revived in the creek where the posh lifestyle and big malls aren’t seen. There are number of hotels and restaurants sprung along the creek, which will make you fall in love with its ambience. There is also the provision of romantic rides through the creek, which is yet another advantage for newlyweds and honeymooners.
